EYEGLASS RECYCLING COMMITTEE:
Individual Lions Clubs are responsible for collecting and performing the
initial sorting of donated eyeglasses. Please follow the steps below:
1. Remove Eyeglass Cases before packing. Hard-shell cases may
be saved if your club, zone, or district is planning to use them for a
service project (toiletry or first aid kits)
2. Inspect for Usability – eyeglasses must have both lenses intact.
The frames must be in good, wearable condition. Discard broken
frames, contact lenses, and single/loose lenses.
3. Use Appropriate Boxes – choose sturdy, medium-sized boxes
(grocery or hardware boxes). A typical banker’s box (15”x12”x10”)
holds about 200 pairs of glasses, 1 cubic foot.
4. Sort by Type – If possible, sort glasses into separate boxes or
bags, which are placed within a box for small quantities. Sort by
sunglasses, reading glasses, bifocals, and all other types can be
labeled as Regular Prescription.
5. Deliver the Glasses – bring your sorted boxes to your Eyeglass
Recycling Region Contact or bring them to the D33A Midwinter
Conference.
